Genre decision blog
My group and I discussed all the genres we researched and we quickly came to an agreement. For the final task, our project genre will be horror. We already had our idea from the start and researching the horror genre just made us realize it's the best fit for our project idea. We were initially going to do a thriller since it seemed more exciting but it doesn't really fit into our vision. I love watching any movie horror mostly because of the suspense it builds. I've watched countless horror movies and I've seen the many different ways horrors movies can be made. Also, we thought about doing crime because our pitch sort of involves crime but horror goes into it on a deeper level. After rethinking our pitch, the only genre it really goes with is horror which makes sense since it's about creepy activity. I also believe camera angles become more interesting with camera angles. These camera angles are also aren't difficult at all, I don't think my group and I would have an issue with filming at all. In the horror genre, lighting is usually dark which is a major reason why it creates such suspense. I can't really explain why the dark is scarier but it just is and most horror movies are in in dim/ dark lighting. For our pitch, we were planning to film in during the evening anyways because of the topic we chose. In horror usually weapons are used which works out good because in our pitch decision we would be able to use fake weapons. It would also be fun to edit our final task since it has to do with scary features. We are able to add things such as jumpscares or special effects. Some of these elements we want to add into our final task might not fall in with the other genres wince they're all different and have different pieces. I belive with horror and with our pitch, there's a wide variety of things that can be accomplished. Overall, horror is probably one of the most interesting genres. We get to safely experience our fears, and we like making the fantastical real. Horror is the only genre that has a greater or simpler ability to stimulate our emotions in the way that great movies do.
