Genre research: Smile

  What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?

 After dr rose cotters observation of a terrible event involving one of her patients, the physchological horror film follow Dr. cottor. Unsettling occurrences start to follow rose and control her life. Rose needs to face her past if she wants this nightmare to end and to survive. In this movie the first thing that comes to mind are the countless close up shots of the horrifying smile face, everyone possessed by this monster smiles in a certain way that's extremely creepy. This is one of the major elements in horror films since it captures the actual horror part of the movie. There are also good amount of jump scares in this movie which gives the audience drive and motivation which is entertaining to people watching the movie. There are many uses of editing in this movie since editing is used to both make people have the smile face and for the possessed people in this movie to take their own lives. Without this use of editing this movie wouldn't have been possible to be considered a horror movie. 

What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? 

Me and onara both liked the jump scares in the movie because it kept us on our feet the whole time to where it kept us hooked on the movie. There were also good camera angles used which gives the audience many different perspectives of the movie. 

What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you? The cliffhanger at the end was aggravating since nobody knows the real ending of the movie. Many horror movies do the same thing because its supposedly good for the movie producers keep the audience hooked, so then when the second movie comes out people have something to look forward too.

My perspective of the editing

 As we know from last project and this one, onara is the editor and camera woman while i’m the actor and idea person. With our final task coming up we have both realized that i’m going to need to learn editing. This is because the video will be longer than anyone we’ve ever done, which will make it trickier for onara to edit. Longer clips to edit, longer clips to film, transition etc. So i decided that i would be with onara while she edits this time. This is so in the future i know how to help her and i can learn by watching her. What we did is for the first part of editing which was cutting the scenes. Basically just cutting the scenes to be shorter so we didn’t take as much time in the video. This was easily done on the iPhone just by clicking edit on the camera app. Then she started putting the clips together. She put the clips together with an app called cap cut. Such as the key, they zoomed in out which gives the audience a sense of importance to the key. along with the statues of skulls and creatures.  3. What connotations do these images carry?   I chose onara to work with for many reasons. The first reason is i see her almost everyday afterschool for volleyball. So i would be able to shoot with her after volleyball or before outside of school. Secondly, Our parents are friends. They trust that we will be both safe in either of there hands. If i had a partner whos family i didn't know, my parents wouldn't be to comfortable leaving me in their care. Another reason why i chose her is because she's good at finding the needed and correct research. If we need to find something ASAP she is able to quickly find it. She also is a good value to the project because she knows how to shoot. What i mean is she knows how to recognize angles and shoot them clearly. What i can bring to the table is resources. We have already thought about our commercial and what we were thinking i can provide the resources we need for it. Such as the props needed and the transport needed to go where we need for shooting.
